I’ve officially died and gone to Heaven. Here are two of the most fascinating and beautiful women on Earth for Numéro #121, March 2011, in “Bal de la Couture,” shot by Karl Lagerfeld. Beyond representing how flawless the human race can really be, the styling by Capucine Safyurtlu recreates a classic glamour that invokes body-wide goosebumps. Unreal, alluring — perfection.

Freja Beha Erichsen – Complete Harry Winston Campaign, 2010
December 11, 2010I dunno how Photographer Patrick Demarchelier expects me to deal with this spread. I’d walk off a cliff for Freja as it is! Then, THIS! She just glows, and so much brighter than the diamonds she’s wearing. I love this kind of happiness in campaigns/editorials/runway/anything really. Nothing warms the soul like a smile!

Café y Chocolate Pastel de Tres Leches – Celebrity Birthday Series – Manuela Tessari
September 11, 2010September 9th, 2010, my most favourite Brazilian Fashion Model, Manuela Tessari, turned 19! So, I baked a cake!
Now, I made this with full-on ingredients as I still need to experiment with a Vegan recipe, (or at least one that is low-cal), but I know how to make this like the back of my hand the old fashioned way and I wanted to make something pretty for Manu so~ :p Ford would KILL ME if I fed her this! Secrets! Shhhhhhh!
*BTW, if anyone has tips/recipes for a Vegan Tres Leches cake, please let me know!*
This is two-layer round cake spiked with espresso & rum, adorned with fluffy whipped topping, cocoa powder & decorative chocolate sticks & discs. Everyone here really enjoyed it! I’m a bit spent to post the recipe so I’ll post some history on this sinfully delightful goodie, from Chef Dorothy Sibole at TexasCooking.com:
“So what is this cake? Pastel de Tres Leches is a butter cake sometimes flavored with vanilla. What makes it unusual is that it is soaked in a mixture of three different milk products, hence the name Tres Leches. The three milks, when combined, create just the right sweetness, density and “mouth feel” for a rich cake, making it moist but not mushy.
The idea of soaking a cake in liquid is not new. There are some traditional cakes that require a good bath in some flavoring. You know them as a Baba or a Savarin, and the Christmas favorite, Rum cake. These cakes get their traditional flavoring from being doused with an alcohol mixture. Many layer cake recipes advise you to brush your cake layers with a simple syrup solution to moisten the cake. The Pastel de Tres Leches takes this one step further, adding richness to the soaking liquid.
So how did the Tres Leches come about? It is hard to pinpoint the origin of the confection. There is dispute over where it came from. There is dispute over when it was first created. There is even dispute over what variation is the correct version of Pastel de Tres Leches. After much mind-numbing investigation, I drew two definite conclusions. One is that this cake is very popular in Latin America, especially Mexico and Nicaragua. The second is that it is soaked in a mixture of three different types of milk: evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and whole milk or heavy cream.
Going on the assumption that sweetened condensed milk has not been around for a long time, I was trying to narrow down the potential timeframe for the introduction of the recipe. Low and behold, my theory was blown out of the water. It appears that sweetened condensed milk has been around since the 1800′s. The product was originally created to preserve fresh milk. That being the case, I gave up on trying to determine when the cake was created. While the facts of its origin may be elusive, the fact of its popularity is not.”
I made some other things but I’m saving the savory recipes for a Culinary World Tour post series I have planned. Suppose this means my recipe tour, which I’ll blog here, will begin in Sao Paolo! (Peru will follow. Then, probably Mexico where my family comes from).
Happy Birthday, Manuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu~~~!!! <3 ( *^-^) ~To love! Happiness! Long life! Infinite success!
Saúde!

Manuela Tessari – Brazilian Beauty Excepcional
August 5, 2010Photos from Brian Haider.
18 year old Brazilian Model Manuela Tessari! (Born Sept 9th, 1991). There’s just something about her. I’ve kept up with her career ever since she broke into the business and she’s just been uphill from the start. What I find intriguing about Manuela is her very classic beauty. I could see her in any era, any dress. Always radiant. And there’s something in her eyes. Joyful, outgoing. In Manu, I see the life of the party. Through her photos, I can hear her laugh. She’s something special, one of the very sweetest girls alive and my favourite Brazilian Model!
I will be posting more and more of Manu over time. She is another girl I think would be FANTASTIC in films! She has such a timeless presence. And the camera loves her!
My favourite picture of Manu, (from her Facebook). (DON’T SHOOT ME MANU! I Love it! :p)

Abbey Lee Kershaw – LEWITT Ad by Ryan McGinley – Clothes to Die For, Metaphorically!
August 3, 2010Adorable garments in this superbly shot ad. There’s conjecture circulating that slams it as “pro-suicide” and “tasteless” but I don’t see it. Sounds like hypersensitivity rearing its head again. I feel interpretation is alive in all art; fashion, videography & advertising being no exceptions.
My take on this: “Clothes to die for.” ~Metaphorically speaking.
Pity I can’t find look-book shots of the outfits. If/when I do, I’ll update this post with them.

Sarah Burton Soars – Alexander McQueen Resort 2011 Collection
July 29, 2010No one better could have maintained the spirit and aesthetic of Alexander McQueen like Sarah Burton. These pieces are beautiful, lavish, complex & invoke a tossed salad of emotions. I don’t get much of anything cheery, though, (which is probably why this collection didn’t overtake McCartney as my favourite Resort but I digress). But I don’t enjoy speaking about what a collection is NOT. What it IS, is confident. Here, we see Burton has no fear at all. She takes the daunting task she’s been charged with in the wake of McQueen’s suicide and knees it in the balls, especially in pieces like the first posted, red and black chiffon. Such fluidity, such motion. It’s like a cascading waterfall of blood, of passion. The first word that popped into my mind when I saw it was “VICIOUS!” I think that’s a quality we always saw in McQueen’s work and Burton “got it.” She just “got it” and it shows, especially in looks like the last one; a torrentially romantic ball gown that rises from the ashes of a bygone era and commands its place in present day.
I love every single one of these pieces. The tailoring is in another league on its own and the attention to detail invites us to study Burton’s garments as if we were meticulously perusing a museum. These prints tell stories; stories Lee always told us around the campfire of his brilliance.
When Lee passed, I was concerned for the future of the brand. When rumours began that “this person” or “that person” would take over, I was glum. But when Sarah Burton was announced, it just made sense and the proof is in the pudding. I have no doubt Lee’s spirit works alongside Sarah, helping safety-pin and seam fabrics. And I’m sure he’s proud of her, as we all are.

Frida Gustavsson – Vionnet Resort 2011
July 26, 2010There’s just something about this collection. The first impression I get is very European Holiday; very breezy, carefree. Lots of youth injected into this by Rodolfo Paglialunga. Yet, much is very classic. Audrey Hepburn could have worn looks 11-13 in any romantic comedy of her era. Looks 25 & 26 could be found at any modern garden party. Look 27? My favourite! Grecian Goddess!
How flawless is Frida Gustavsson in this? It was a genius idea to have her wear this collection. She’s cute, spunky, beautiful, chic, sophisticated & alluring all at the same time. Love her hair, too.

Ann & Kirby Kenny – Vogue Russia August 2010 – Марш в Париж (March In Paris)
July 22, 2010The Kenny Sisters! How much do I love twin sisters killing it all over the fashion world? Lots & bunches & much muchly! :p These girls are so exciting to watch climb the ranks. Unmistakable presences on the catwalk. Breath-takers in editorials. So similar yet so distinct. They’re here to stay. (BTW, that’s Kirby in blonde locks and Anne in brunette)!

Kate Howat – Elite Model Look UK 2010 Finalist, Girl Ain’t No Joke!
July 15, 2010Be on the watch for Kate! I’ve underestimated her, perhaps, because these stills are FANTABULOUS!
:p She’s a killer, isn’t she? Stats! ~ 5’11″ ~ 33-25-34.5 – Photos & stats sourced from TFS.

Elite Model Look UK Finalists 2010
July 13, 2010Not finding much on the girls yet but — so far — here are the finalists, sourced from Elite UK’s Facebook page.
Based on preliminary shots, my pick for the win! Just wish we had stats, some more pols with different looks, maybe runway examples, but natch. :p #TeamAmelia !
(l to r) Hannah from Warwickshire, Jenni from Leeds, Kate from Buckinghamshire – I really like Hannah & Jenni’s looks, as well. Kate, eh. . . I’d have to see her in action to further an opinion.
(l to r) Grace from Surrey, Eilidh, from Glasgow, Daisy from Somerset – Again, I’d have to see these girls in action to further an opinion but I’m not exactly falling out of my seat over one or the other. Although, Eilidh’s skin-tone/hair/eyes wins me over between the lot. And Grace sure has a fierce stare and cute freckles. We’ll see.
(l to r) Sasha from Hampshire, Olivia F from Devon, Olivia D from Nottinghamshire – Not a fan of the first two but Olivia D. seems interesting. I rather enjoy the whole squinty-eye thing. She looks quite leek and LOOOOOONG. Lord, look at that neck and the expanse of her shoulders. Fetching hair, as well.
(l to r) Louise from Essex, Emma from Perth & Kinross – Not feeling either. Although, they have great skin.
So, my ranking of the finalists!
01) Amelia
02) Jenni
03) Olivia D
04) Hannah
05) Eilidh
06) Grace
07) Kate
08) Daisy
09) Olivia F
10) Sasha
11) Louise
12) Emma
