Richard Chai LOVE – Nudity of the Heart – New York Fashion Week S/S 2011

September 10, 2010

What a fitting collection for Richard Chai’s LOVE line! Devoid of embellishments and sequin and all things flashy, what we see here is the personification of love; nudity of the heart. Everything is so delicate and tranquil. He had me at palazzo pants, let me tell you. I like the idea of incorporating boyfriend blazers and working with layers in a way that, to me, feels like waking up in the morning wrapped and rolled up in mounds of soft sheets. Ever had the best dream you’ve ever had of your boyfriend or girlfriend? And woken up comfortably smiling? That dreaminess is something else I pick up here. ~And I had to lead the gallery with one of the very best in the business, (and a personal favourite), Hanne Gaby Odiele in a sheer top and cobalt blue trousers. Notice the Oxfords throughout have a bit of a sparkle to them, which is as far as he went with runway glitz. From Style.com:

All the prints, the embellishment, the embroidery, all of those things are still in the collection,” said Chai, speaking at his studio the day before his clothes hit the catwalk. “But what I’m showing on the runway is not that.”

I imagine these pieces felt like Heaven for the models to wear! Melissa Tammerijn opened. Saw some lovely familiar faces like Liu Wen, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Ruby Aldridge & Sigrid Agren. With fantastic grace, Frida Gustavsson preceeded Jac, who closed.

GOOD #NYFW MORNING! – New York Fashion Week Begins!

September 9, 2010

Sooo excited! Firstly, Fashion’s Night Out Kick-off show on Sept. 7th was miraculous. As the largest NY fashion show ever produced, Anna Wintour and the city of New York threw themselves. From the barrage of models to Gisele Bundchen’s 25-million-dollar model stomp to the slew of represented cultures and styles, fashion was personified beautifully and ideally. That’s what fashion is all about. It’s commentary on the times we live in, where we’ve been where we are and where we’re going. It’s about how we identify ourselves as a society, how we evolve. And it’s about fun!

Today it all begins! Here are a few resources for streaming live content of all things NYFW:

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week – Firstly, the schedule!

Milk Made – Live shows from Milk Studios will be broadcast here.

Fashion At Lincoln Center – Another link/resource for streaming shows.

Stylist.com – Sneak Peek at the new Tents!

LiveStream – Small bit offered by Livestream.com

And may I front-up a collective sigh that Mary Rambin won’t be covering NYFW S/S 2011? Her coverage was sooo fun and raw and honest and thorough and let us see between so many cracks in the shows that she really raised the bar for live streaming coverage of Fashion Week. She won’t be doing it again, as she explains here, and I am wondering if any bloggers will be doing what she used to?  If anyone knows, let me know please! 🙂

Note! The very first show at the Lincoln Center is Nicholas K. Follow the live Tweeting from in-house here & visit the official website.
